How does Wipro ensure contractual obligations are followed?

Wipro remains steadfast in upholding employee contracts, as emphasized by Chairman

Rishad Premji on July 18.

“We are committed to ensuring that the contracts signed with our colleagues and employees are adhered to. This philosophy has not changed and will not change moving forward,”

Premji stated during the 78th Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Premji’s remarks were in response to inquiries about actions taken against employees not honoring contractual obligations.

For instance, former Chief Financial Officer Jatin Dalal resigned and joined rival company Cognizant, leading Wipro to sue Dalal for breaching the non-compete clause within 12 months of his departure. The lawsuit was settled with Cognizant paying $505,087 to Dalal.

A shareholder also questioned the management on addressing leadership turnover at Wipro. Premji responded that career growth opportunities sometimes lead to departures.

“We have nurtured many CEOs who have gone on to lead other organizations. Entrepreneurship has always been a core value at Wipro,” Premji added.

He highlighted that Wipro takes pride in offering young employees growth opportunities in a decentralized environment.

On April 6, Wipro’s then CEO and Managing Director Thierry Delaporte resigned, and Srinivas Pallia was promoted to CEO.

Gen AI Initiatives

During his first AGM as Wipro’s CEO, Pallia discussed leveraging Generative AI (Gen AI) to enhance productivity in software development and managed services.

“As we integrate more Gen AI tools, productivity in coding and testing improves,” Pallia noted.

He emphasized the significance of data management and governance for effective AI implementation, predicting that Gen AI will positively impact various processes, including customer experience, employee experience, and supply chain visibility.

“In the mid-to-long term, Gen AI represents a significant opportunity for Wipro, and we aim to capitalize on this to increase our market share,” he added.

In Wipro’s FY24 Annual Report, Premji stated that over 30,000 employees received advanced Gen AI training tailored to their roles.

Information technology (IT) companies are increasingly incorporating Gen AI into client interactions, leading to substantial investments in Gen AI tools and services.

“We have provided basic Gen AI training to over 225,000 employees, with 30,000 receiving advanced training specific to their roles,” Premji reported.

CEO Srinivas Pallia affirmed Wipro’s commitment to strategic acquisitions and talent investments to sustain growth.

“We continue to enhance our expertise through significant investments in a domain-focused consultative approach,” Pallia conveyed in the FY24 Annual Report.
